My Favorite Books of 2017

2017 is coming to a close, and 2018 is nigh!

Last year, I wrote a post about all my favorite books of 2016, so I'm going to continue that tradition. I've switched up the categories to reflect my reading habits this year (I read more traditionally-published books and more YA), and there are some books which could have fit into more than one category.

To be clear, not all of these books are 2017 releases. In fact, some of them are relatively old -- I just hadn't gotten a chance to read them until this year.

Favorite summer read

I love sci-fi. I love mystery. This book combined the two in the best possible way.

Favorite contemporary novel

This book had SO MANY FEELS, with a great voice and a great mystery component. I'm super excited for the movie next year!

Favorite concept

I love any story involving books and writers, and this one certainly did ... in a very creative, Twilight-Zone-ish kind of way. Ms Keating gets major points for pulling this off.

Favorite series starter

A cool science-y concept that quickly escalates into a nightmarish horror-fest. The sequel comes out next year, and I want it STAT.

After devouring Illuminae last year, I was overjoyed to get my mitts on this beauty in January. It has a lot to live up to, but boy does it deliver.

FAVORITE OVERALL

Eliza and Her Monsters was an impulse library borrow that ended up being my favorite book of 2017. Despite not having any sci-fi, fantasy, or mystery elements (my go-to genres), Eliza's journey completely captivated me. Perhaps I'm just a sucker for books about storytellers, but I ate up every page with relish. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars, I would.

So, those were my favorite reads of 2017. What about you? Share your faves in the comments!
