My Favorite Books of 2016

For better or worse, 2016 has just about come to an end. That means it's time to look back on this year in books!

I read so many great books this year that I wish I could mention them all. As it is, here are the highlights which really stood out to me.

Favorite summer read

I ripped through this book in a single July day, and I have no regrets.

Favorite out-of-my-comfort-zone read

Snowball and Snow Bunny (Chronicles of a Wererabbit series) by M.Y. Zeman.

I don't usually read paranormal, but I was asked to review these books so I decided to give them a shot. I was pleasantly surprised.

Favorite YA novel

This one was just beautiful. I need the sequel ASAP.

Favorite self-published series

I'm kind of cheating here, because I had two series that I couldn't decide between, so I decided to split them up into different categories.

My favorite self-published series was the ARC series by Alexandra Moody.

Two words. Dystopian. Superheroes.

Favorite trad-published series

The Slated trilogy by Teri Terry.

This series is full of cool sci-fi concepts and emotional angst. Plus, it's set in Oxfordshire, which is where I used to live!

Favorite sequel

The fourth book in the Uglies series, set about five years after the events of the first three books, was super compelling, and complimented its predecessors really well.

Favorite overall

Despite its being a little cynical towards the trade publishing industry, I didn't want this book to end. It swept me up in all the wonder and intrigue of the plot. I usually like a speculative element in my books, but this one was incredible without it. If you're over 14, I suggest you pop over to Amazon and get yourself a copy, right now.

So, those were my favorite reads of 2016. What about you? Share your faves in the comments!
